Sheila was without doubt the best Granny who ever walked the earth.....the smell of warm baked bread and desserts, and even warmer hugs greeted you every time you walked through Granny's ever open door......I think it was only ever closed when they went to bed at night.

As kids, myself and my brother John used to go visit Granny and Grandad on the farm for a few weeks every summer. While Grandad would be out in the fields somewhere with John, taking in the hay or tending to the cows at milking time, Granny and I would bake for everyone, always insisting that we baked my favourite cheesecake first.....telling me that the secret to it's extra sweet flavour was due to the fresh cream that she got from her own milking parlour. Neighbours and friends would often call in for tea and chats, but when we got a few minutes quiet time we would go pick some flowers for the kitchen table from her colourful garden, telling me about all the different kinds and letting me choose which ones to pick.

Granny would tell me that I was her favourite granddaughter, but that that was our secret. Always telling me how smarter I was compared to her, and how I could do whatever I wanted to do when I grew up. But I think it was her warm, kind and friendly influence that led me to becoming a guesthouse owner. Many of the same flowers now abound our guesthouse when visitors arrive, and the door remains open all day too. Much of the food served is made with her delicious secret recipes.

Granny Sheila will forever be missed, but her warmth lives on in our home.
